It is truly amazing that we have an opportunity to communicate with the Creator of the Universe. God allows sinful humans to talk with Him. What an awesome privilege. Sadly many of us donít bother to pray or hardly at all.
What is Prayer
Prayer is communication between us and our Heavenly Father. We can pray verbally or non-verbally. Itís important to remember that communication is a two way street. Far too often after we are done speaking, we just leave and never give God a chance to respond. It is sad that many Christians don't take advantage of this wonderful privilege we have of being able to communicate with the Creator of all heaven and earth. Thankfully we can change and begin to communicate the our Father in heaven.
There are different types of prayer. Intercession, worship and petition are three types of prayer. With intercession we pray on behalf on another person. Perhaps for their salvation, physical or financial needs. Petition is where we bring our requests before the Lord. Petitions are not only material needs but spiritual needs. We all need to pray for God direction and wisdom in our lives. With worship we have an opportunity to express worship, praises and adoration to our Lord Jesus.
Why Prayer is necessary
Prayer, that is communication, is necessary to establish and enrich our relationship with our Heavenly Father. To have a deepening relationship with someone there needs to be communication. We can pray verbally or non-verbally. Itís important to remember communication is a two way street. Too often after we are done speaking we just leave and never give God a chance to respond. God wants to develop a deep relationship with us, and pray is a primary way of accomplishing that.
When to pray.
We can pray at any time and all times. The bible has examples of people praying in the morning, afternoon and evening. Some examples of when Jesus prayed are:
Morning - In Mark 1:35 we read of Jesus getting up early in the morning to pray.
Night - In Luke 6:12 we read of Jesus praying at night.
Prayers get answered.
Prayers do get answered!! However, prayers may not be answered in the way would like them to be answered. The Lord may grant our request, and we should be thankful to Him. We should also be grateful if the answer is no. The Lord always knows what is best for us, we should also be thankful when he determines the request should be no.
Remember, Our Father always knows best!!!!
